Hi! My name is Em and this is my blog! Pushups with Polish started back in 2010 by accident and has since then grown into what it is today, an athletic lifestyle blog. As a former athlete (swimmer) I wanted to create a place where style and athleticism go hand in hand. Here you’ll find fitness, fashion, and beauty tips. Best part? I’ll show you how to style outfits that will take you directly from work (or class) to the gym. Every single post is fitness related in some way, shape, or form for you and your crazy, hectic life!

How did Pushups with Polish start?

It started through a chain of unlucky events and neighbor’s really loud college party that kept me up all night.

Why the name Pushups with Polish?

As a warm-up in the weight room our weight coach made us do pushups before every lift. Me being me, I would always look around (and laugh) noticing that 20+ girls could do what most guys can’t….but we always had freshly painted manicures. Thus, the name Pushups with Polish.

Do you have any tips for anyone wanting to start a blog?

GO FOR IT! Don’t think, just do. Most importantly, be yourself!  It’s not hard to start, but it does take a lot of time and energy if you want to be taken seriously. To be honest, I still sometimes don’t really know what I’m doing but that’s what friends and Google are for!   

What kind of camera do you use and who takes your pictures?

One of the best gifts I ever got was my Canon Rebel DSLR! I’m still not a pro, but I’m enjoying teaching myself along the way. The quality on my IPhone camera is also so good that it often replaces my Rebel. As for who takes my pictures? I do, unless they are of me, where I have few artsy friends help me out! Then I go to town editing…

I am an athlete, I don’t get blogging, especially fashion blogging!

Haha neither did I! In fact I had no idea that what I started back in 2010 was even considered a blog! I was even hesitant to tell my friends about it at first. PWP is unique because it is both a lifestyle and fashion blog, and yes…outfits post are normal in the blogging world. Never in a million years did I think I’d be so open with people. But, you all have been so awesome and supportive (and I hope to do the same for you!)  

What sports did you play?

I have tried almost everything in the books: dance, karate, gymnastics, ice skating, Irish dance, ballet, basketball, horseback riding, softball….Everything. I finally fell in love with swimming at age 13 and swam through college. It changed my life, gave me my best friends, an NCAA championship, and has led me to everything I am doing today. 

What do you like to do to workout?

Of course swimming will always be my favorite way to exercise (but now, I only do it when the sun is out!) . Usually though, I go to the gym a few times a week or mix it up by staying active outside. I’m a huge believer in Pilates for totally body strength and well-being and don't mind Bikram yoga on occasion. 

Oh and sometimes I run to get my coffee instead of drive!

Wait a minute…are you Vegan/Vegetarian?

Vegetarian! And before that I was vegan for a year but decided that being vegetarian was a good balance for me. As an athlete I always wanted to do the absolute best for my body. I love learning about nutrition. As I researched more and more, a plant based diet seemed like the right choice for me. Before I knew it, I was going best times and rarely getting sick! I still crave In&Out on occasion, but I feel the best I ever have so I don’t think turning back would be worth it!
